Capvond The GRP and composites specialists
Established in 1989, Capvond are one of the longest established composite manufacturers in the UK.
Operating from their own manufacturing facility in the central belt of Scotland, Capvond supply throughout the UK, surrounding islands and Ireland.
Initially serving the plumbing industry, Capvond now supply a wide variety of industries including housebuilding and construction, civil engineering, television and theatre, utilities, landscaping and many more, and welcome the opportunity to help develop new and innovational products for their clients.
Amongst all the industries Capvond supply, housebuilding and construction is the largest. Having produced GRP chimneys and dormers from the early 1990’s, Capvond have a wide portfolio of building products and now provide a wide variety of GRP composite and Cast Composite products, from lift pit liners incorporated into the groundworks, to finials, lead effect roof copes and chimneys at roof level and many products in between.
Architectural mouldings and stone features, bay window roofs and dormers, canopies, sills, mullions, corbels, mock lintels and stone features are just some of the many standard and bespoke products Capvond now produce.
Prior to setting up standards for OSM building products such as chimneys, Capvond were one of the first companies that the NHBC approached, to seek advice on best practice and the quality required, to provide durable, reliable building products. These standards are now used by many other building warranty providers.
INNOVATION
In the last 10 years Capvond have invested in excess of one million pounds to develop new products and manufacturing systems, helping to improve building practice in the UK, and provide UK housebuilding and construction cost effective solutions to expensive traditional building methods, and new products compatible with 21st century building systems.
GRP composites have long been used for facades, dormers, chimneys and canopies, and are often an integral part of many building projects. Incorporating OSM features and products reduces building costs by reducing direct labour costs on site. As many products are supplied completely finished, delays due to weather conditions or supply of labour to construct them, are completely eradicated. Glass fibre or structural glass strands have been incorporated into concrete (GRC) or Gypsum (GRG), and is used widely within the industry, but Capvond have gone a step further and now produce Cast Composite products, lighter, stronger and low maintenance.
With a high impact resistance, porosity of 0.2%, Capvond Cast Composites have been developed over the past ten years. Less than a third of the weight of precast concrete and stone products, and with a flexural strength almost three times stronger.
The much lighter weight of the Cast Composite products reduce the risk of damage during transportation and movement on site, increase the speed of build and the health and safety of tradesmen and women using them.

One of the many problems to overcome, particularly when replicating stone, is the variety and movement of colour. Capvond have developed a unique blend of materials which can replicate most stones, including granite, a technique which cannot be replicated in the GRP composite industry.
Providing textures replicating stone and timber maintains Capvond’s reputation of being able to provide clients exactly what they are looking for, by providing cost effective and easily installed solutions compatible with current building practice.
LOWERING THE CARBON FOOTPRINT
GRP composite OSM products are key building components helping to achieve the Government’s target of reducing the carbon footprint created by the building industry. Lighter and completely finished prior to delivery, GRP Composite OSM products reduce site waste and labour costs, which in turn reduce site handling, road transportation and travel. In many cases the GRP Composite reduces or eliminates the need for concrete products, one of the biggest pollutants of Carbon Dioxide gases.
Capvond cast composite stormshield sills in buff multi, anthracite, red multi & grey. Manufactured using up to 70% recycled materials, and less than one third of the weight of precast concrete, most Cast Composites don’t require mechnical handling. Very low porosity helps to provide a long maintenance free lifetime.
As 85% of the strength is achieved within one hour of production, Cast Composites will not have friable and broken edges typically associated with precast concrete and reconstituted stone, which can typically take thirty days to cure, thus reducing repair costs and providing the client with a durable long term alternative.
