Variety is the spice of life at Sressline
It was 1964 when Keith Fox first started making concrete lintels out of a small site in Leicestershire. Today Keith’s youngest son Chris heads the company that still makes pre-stressed concrete lintels, as well as steel lintels, flooring systems, cast stone, precast products, fencing and walling.
The company continue to operate out of a site in south-west Leicestershire, but have expanded to 26 acres to match their expanding product offering.
PRODUCT PROFILE
Pre-stressed concrete lintels continue to be a staple part of Stressline’s offer, and are put into stock in their many builders merchants clients. As the business expands into new markets Stressline’s product and service offering has followed that expansion.
STEEL LINTELS
Stressline have actually been manufacturing steel lintels since the 1970’s. Early in that decade they produced a hybrid steel and concrete lintel. Today they boast one of the UK’s largest published range of steel lintels. Andrew Sanderson, Marketing Executive for Stressline comments: “Steel is a key product for us today. As we grow, and do more business with housebuilders, developers, surveyors, architects and engineering companies we need to be able to offer these companies a quality product at a competitive rate. Our engineering department work hard to ensure we can do that as well as developing our range of steel to ensure we have the right product for every situation.”
The insulating panels are what gives the flooring its efficiency by reducing the cold-bridging. Stressline can achieve U-values of 0.1 if desired by the client.
The other flooring products complete an impressive portfolio for Stressline, with beam and block being the ‘bread and butter’ of flooring, and another Stressline product that is increasingly being sold into the developer market.
Hollowcore floors comply with the latest sound regulations and are available in spans of up to 9m.
CAST STONE
Stressline steel lintels are manufactured to British Standards and are subject to the most stringent European testing in order for them to be CE marked. They are also available with a unique labelling service that allows Stressline to put not only product details on the label, but site, plot, floor and room detail, so that when they arrive on site there is no ambiguity about where those lintels need to be.
FLOORING SYSTEMS
Stressline offer three basic types of flooring: Thermal flooring, standard beam and block, and hollowcore flooring. With the development into the wider market, Stressline’s flooring is another area on the rise.
The thermal flooring system is a growth product and one that Stressline continues to develop. It is becoming more and more attractive to housebuilders and developers alike and increasingly sold into developments like ‘Zu’ in Nuneaton, a site recently completed by housebuilder Cartwright Homes. Andrew Cartwright, Managing Director of Cartwright Homes, comments: “Stressline’s thermal flooring option was the ideal choice for us. It is a cost- effective way for us to achieve the desired U-values and make our properties even more efficient and appealing.”
STRESSLINE
Cast stone is another product group manufactured on site in Leicestershire. Available in four colours, the high quality decorative stone is highly sought after in the industry. Stressline are one of only a handful of companies that utilise vapour curing processes which comes with a host of benefits: Vapour curing allows Stressline to cure the cast stone overnight. The vapour curing champers speed the process up which means Stressline are not beholden to the fluctuating elements of the British weather. It also offers a consistent finish. The environment in the chamber can be controlled, so the cast stone products all have the same high quality finish.
CPD OFFERING
Stressline also offer CPD presentations to architects, engineers, housebuilders and developers. They have a RIBA approved CPD entitled “Lintel Intel: Specifying lintels for new homes and RMI.” They are also developing a thermal flooring CPD, which they are looking to finalise by Q2 in 2019. On top of the official CPD presentations they regularly present to clients and potential clients with bespoke presentations. Andrew Sanderson, who heads up the CPD programme explains: “We know that one size doesn’t necessarily fit all with CPD presentations, so we often tweak what we have for certain clients, and in some cases design a completely new presentation just for them. Our breadth of product knowledge and 50 plus year experience has armed us with formidable knowledge, and more and more clients and prospects are seeing us as an authority in the market place with something of value to discuss and demonstrate.”
