Changes to dangerous goods
regulations In the December 2018 issue of BIFAlink, reference was made to the 2019 Edition of the ICAO Regulations and the corresponding new issue of the IATA Regulations. BIFA has been reminded that
the other modal regulations governing the movement of dangerous goods are also changing at the same time. The other regulations are: • By Road, the ADR Regulations; 2019 Edition, effective from 1 January 2019, but compulsory from 1 July 2019.
Time to ‘Blaze a Trail’
The 12th annual National Apprenticeship Week will run from 4-8 March 2019. Co-ordinated by the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) it is designed to celebrate apprenticeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy. The Department of Education’s campaign will
address the outdated perceptions around apprenticeships and position them as an aspirational active choice for individuals and employers. Carl Hobbis, BIFA training development manager,
said: “Now that we have a specific apprenticeship standard for International Freight Forwarding, we will be planning a series of events to support members leading up to and throughout the week, and the more BIFA Members that do something locally off their own initiative, the better.”
Some ideas you could do or get involved with are: • Offer work experience, • Work with a local school or college, • Stage an event, • Make a video or write a blog, • Utilise your social media channels. The theme for the 12th annual National
Apprenticeship Week is: “Blaze a Trail”. Through this year’s theme, NAS want to showcase
how apprenticeships bring new energy and passion into businesses. Apprenticeships are a great path for people at any stage of their career from those starting out, to those re-entering the workforce, or those wanting to reskill or change careers In the coming weeks, we will share a comprehensive
toolkit with a range of assets you can use to promote the apprenticeship campaign across your media channels.
• By Sea, the IMDG Regulations; Edition 39-18, effective from 1 January 2019, but compulsory from 1 January 2020. It should be noted that
Members can choose a date within the effective period from which the updated editions will apply to their operations, but it is not permissible to use a mixture of any two editions. BIFA would like to thank Bob Cross, Chair of its DGAG, for contributing this article.
