IATA announces a new CASS Associates Global Model
IATA has announced that a new CASS Associates Global Model was launched in January this year. The conditions of the new
model include several changes that were approved by airlines at their Cargo Agency Conference (CAC) in 2018. The main features of the model
are:
• New CASS associate applicants will be requested to provide an upfront financial security;
• One CASS airline sponsorship is required for new applicants;
Funds raised for Transaid

throughout the world occur in low- and middle-income countries, placing a disproportionate burden on their fragile infrastructure. Thanks to the support from UK industry, Transaid has
trained over 160 personnel in countries such as Zambia and Sierra Leone to pass safe driving skills to bus, truck and motorcycle drivers. To date, they have trained over 30,000 drivers. Guests at the BIFA Awards ceremony dug deep last month and raised the grand total of £2,420.
• Current CASS associates with three irregularities accumulated in the last 12 consecutive months are to provide a financial security;
• The calculation of any financial security will be based on the amount of risk.
As many CASS associates
operate and trade as freight forwarders, representations were made by national and international trade associations to delay the implementation and allow for proper industry consultation. However, IATA’s airline members decided that the implementation would go ahead in January as planned. A working group made up of
airline and forwarder representatives will now consider recommendations for potential solutions that could lessen the impact of some of the changes. They will also consider making a recommendation to ensure that in the future all participants in CASS will be part of any industry consultation process.
