Awards nightmarks pupils’ achievements


ACHIEVEMENTS by students at Invicta Grammar School have beenrewardedat anawardsnight. Prizes for GCSE results were


presentedbyNHS social care chief, HelenGreatorex. The school celebrated the “su-


perb” results of the year 11 stu- dentswith 65%of all grades at 7 to 9 orA*/Agrades. Teacherswere especiallypleased


in light of the “high volatility” of the reformed exams this year, said a spokesman. The results showed:


 67 students achieved eight or moreA*/Aor 9 – 7 grades; 114 students achieved 5 ormore A*/Aor 9 – 7 grades;  nine students achieved nine grades 8, 9 orA*;  27 students achieved eight grades 8, 9 orA*. Aswell as a new1-9 grading sys-


temfor the GCSEs, pupils are also rated by the newsecondary school bench-marking system,Progress 8.


Aspokesman for the school said:


“The provisional figures released by the Department for Education showed that Invicta students achieved a Progress 8 score of 0.96, meaning that they achievedalmost a grade higher than their peers of similar ability across the subjects. “This places Invicta among the


top 14% of secondary schools na- tionally. “The hard work of all the stu-


dents and staff at the school along with the continued support of par- ents has contributed significantly to the excellent results that the stu- dents have achieved this year.”


The schoolwas this year ranked


in the top10 best secondaries in the country, based on official data. The Real School Guide used 51


measures to come to its conclu- sions andranks IGS seventh across the country and among the best in Kent,with a five star, 86%rating. In July, head teacher and joint


CEO of the Valley Invicta Acade- mies Trust (VIAT), Julie Derrick said: “I believe that the achieve- mentswe have aredown to the fact that we all have a collaborative drive for the same thing: outstand- ing care, outstanding education and outstanding opportunities.”
