After a season of indulgence, it might seem counter intuitive to kick off the new year’s issue with an article dedicated to eating out in restaurants. But once you see the places chef Ashley James recommends, one of your New Year’s resolu- tions may well be to attempt eat your way around the world right here in London. Ashley, who has been an expat in the UK for several years now, trained and has worked under a variety of international chefs and cuisines so I was espe- cially curious to see the places she recommends to kick off a global culinary ad- venture. At least two of her recommendations are at the top of my to-do list for 2019. Speaking of New Year’s resolutions, Karin Mueller has an interesting take on
the whole idea in our Careers section on page 22. If you’re looking to imple- ment changes into your life this year you’ll find her unique take on how to ap- proach it useful. And speaking of change, one of the most challenging aspects of expat life is getting used to living apart from our friends and family. Turn to page 9 where Kayla Briel looks at ways to minimise the impact and continue to “grow together while living apart”. We loved her tips and found them a useful tool for starting the new year. In keeping with our theme of trying something new in the new year, we have
a bit of everything in this issue: some of the best art courses in London if you fancy learning something new; a literary tour of Box Hill if you fancy discover- ing a new area and a look at trends in online learning and preparing children for jobs that don’t yet exist if you fancy a look at the future. Whatever your plans for the new year we look forward to welcoming you at
one of many FOCUS events planned for 2019 and especially at our new year celebration on January 24.
Happy New Year!
