FEATURE

Carewise- Young Carers Engagement Project Carewise is a charitable organisation that was successful in securing a Children in Need grant in July 2017. The Children in Need grant allows Carewise to deliver a 3 year project across North Devon and Torridge for disengaged and ‘hidden’ young carers aged 5-18.

Aim of the Project: To provide comprehensive support to improve the life chances of those isolated and vulnerable young carers in North Devon who are known to Carewise but do not, or are reluctant to, engage with existing services/activities.

We take an holistic approach to each young carer’s wellbeing, with project outcomes that look inwards at their emotional wellbeing and outwards at the circumstances that affect their caring roles.

Support Offered: •

Intensive 1:1 support Lower level 1:1 support

• Age appropriate, small group activities • Targeted information/guidance and signposting.

Staffing: •

A dedicated Engagement Worker (to develop the project; work with the individual young carers and support the volunteers).

A team of trained volunteers to provide lower level support once the main issues for the young carer’s non engagement have been addressed/reduced.

We are currently seeking to recruit volunteers to support individual young carers in accessing a range of activities to develop their skills, aspirations and interests.
