Welcome to the January IIMS News Bulletin, the first of 2019. On behalf of my colleagues and I, let me wish you all the best for a successful and prosperous year ahead.

Changes seem inevitable and I refer not especially to the marine sector directly, rather to Brexit – sorry to mention that topic so early in the New Year. I have watched with mounting horror at the mess the UK Parliament has got into over this whole issue, like most of the UK population too I suspect. Frankly what we all need in the UK now is certainty. Surveyors in the UK as well as those in Europe need to know how the land lies and what the impending changes will mean to them, to the regulations and to their general working arrangements as they move across borders. The same must surely apply to the whole marine industry too I am sure?

The recent festive period is always, for me, a time for reflection firstly and secondly, a chance for me in those ‘down time’ moments to think about the challenges that lie ahead; and there are many. We have planned a range of Conferences, seminar and events for members and others in the surveying profession to benefit from. So I look forward to meeting as many members this year as possible in the various worldwide locations.
