CHRISTMAS TREATMENTS CHOOSE YOURS WISELY

From fillers to fat reduction, today’s cosmetic treatments offer all manner of promises ... but with Christmas fast approaching it’s easy to make the wrong choice in a hurry. Aesthetics expert DR CLAIRE OLIVER (BDS) offers advice on what you should be looking for to ensure you make the right decision.

With the holiday season drawing ever closer, it’s no surprise that many women I speak to feel the need for a confidence boost before facing all manner of social events.

Whether it’s a festive night out with friends, the Christmas party at the golf club or a family gathering, looking and feeling their best is at the top of my clients’ wish lists. However with a never-ending list of treatments now available, it’s vital you don’t panic-book something you’ll regret.

It’s true that advances in non-surgical cosmetic aesthetics have certainly moved on in leaps and bounds over the last few years, thankfully, both in terms of safety and efficacy. That said; we shouldn’t view all treatments as beauty panaceas. With numerous therapies available on the high street, at dental surgeries and even in hair salons, choosing the right treatment and right place can be confusing. But I can’t stress enough, it is more important than ever to do your homework and find a clinician and a clinic you completely trust.

DON’T BE TEMPTED JUST BECAUSE IT’S CHEAP With all those presents still to buy and all that food that we need to stock up on, Christmas is a time when we just don’t have the spare cash to treat ourselves with. So I understand that it can be tempting to choose a treatment because of the low price point. Places offering cheap treatments may well be under-trained and unregulated, you probably won’t get a full consultation beforehand and more often than not you can be left disappointed by the results; and as a customer you owe it to yourself to be well informed.

Make sure you do your research beforehand – visit clinic websites, read through patient testimonials and look at the types of therapies on offer. Ask friends for their recommendations and an honest account of their experiences.
