LIME WOOD LAID BACK LUXURY AT IT’S BEST.

Countryside indulgence to escape from the world in the heart of the New Forest.

O

riginally a medieval hunting lodge way back in the 13th century, since then it has had an extravagant makeover, giving this Regency mansion a serious air of grandeur inside and out. Inspired by the forest, it melts beautifully into its incredible surroundings and feels like the film set of a big budget period drama with wild ponies and deer roaming freely at the bottom of their drive on the ancient heath and woodland. Lime Wood have thought of everything you could desire to effortlessly wow their guests. Staff, mostly young, are impeccably dressed with “Lime Wood” girls in more familiar fashionable denim jeans and sleek black tops waiting inside to greet you on the front desk with a smile and a hello!

Public spaces are elegant and stylish with themes led by nature bringing the New Forest inside including an over- sized chandelier of giant leaves hanging from the ceiling. The colour palette of natural, muted colours is sumptuous and subtle. A swooping staircase with hand-picked artwork flows up to the bedrooms in the main house. Each room has a heavy solid wood door and own discreet numbering – just enough detail for house guests to find their way at the end of the night and a real key so no one’s stressing about with modern tech! The Forest suite was exceedingly comfortable with separate living area, gorgeous grey velvet sofa scattered with lime green cushions and stunning views from a wonderful chaise longue in the floor-to-ceiling windows. Magnificent four-poster bed, luxury marble bathroom with

his-and-her basins, a walk-in

monsoon power shower and state-of-art technology including automated runway of floor lights for useful navigation in the night! Simply lovely personal touches including a lime green leather jewellery box, a tree guide book on the bedside table and thoughtful attention to detail from positioning the dressing table to enable a perfect natural light to delicious welcome treats awaiting us in our room on arrival. A well-stocked

handsome lighting up drinks cabinet reveals drawers of tempting chocolate delights, Nespresso machine, designer tea bags, bone china, crystal glasses and a bottle of perfectly chilled Bollinger champagne on ice!

Around the grounds there are rustic family cottages, two-story suites and secret hideaways with log burners to snuggle up to. Guests gather for cocktails in the glass atrium Courtyard, a perfect spot to switch off before setting down to dine. Their restaurant, Hartnett Holder & Co, is an exciting partnership between head chef Luke Holder and Michelin- starred chef Angela Hartnett who with their team, cook exceptional food packed full of Italian flavours celebrating the seasons. There is no dress code. The focus is on creating a relaxed and comfortable gourmet dining experience. The sharing menu with optional wine pairing is a great way to discover what they are all about! We loved the estate-to-plate ethos, where maximum use is made of local and home grown produce and the estate’s own original brick Smokehouse! For those who like the food so much they can spend a day behind the scenes of HH& Co, at “HH&Co Backstage” - their cookery school.

Many visitors come just for spa days! The Herb House Spa is a beautiful, unusual space to unwind and re- energise with a luxurious vibe. It has food bar, “Raw & Cured,” serving up delicious,

natural and healthy food.

You can do yoga on the roof in the herb garden or just be pampered by their fantastic therapists for some special ‘me’ time. It offers “Bamford” natural and organic treatments as well as Sarah Chapman facials and more unusual and unique ones like my health-giving real seaweed body wrap! Couples can revive together in double treatment rooms. There’s a good-sized indoor pool, smaller hot tubs and hydrotherapy pool for sensuous swimming with massive steam and sauna with impressive floor to ceiling glass walls with spectacular forest views!

There are so many areas to explore but one of our favourites was the old fashioned “Scullery” room in the morning after a blissful night’s sleep, serving a great five-star ‘festival of food’ breakfast with an a la carte full breakfast menu too!
