in their home and the work involving the whole house, this large project was undertaken

in three separate phases.

The first phase was a loft conversion, adding two bedrooms and a bathroom to the property. Phase two focused on the middle floor of the house, where chimney breasts were knocked out to increase the floorplan of the existing bedrooms, as well as installing a new bathroom. Finally, the reconfiguration of the downstairs space took place to create a welcoming and sociable family kitchen, which also doubles as a dining room with a sofa area. Previously the kitchen had been in the middle of the house without a huge amount of natural light. Debbie runs The Cake Studio, www. thecakestudiolondon.co.uk,

from home

and she explains, “The most important thing was that we could create a nice big kitchen with lots of work space and storage for my business. I often make cakes late at

night and now I can still be with the family whilst working.” Once the project started, Debbie and Mike were really impressed with their

building team and particularly the foreman. “He was amazing. He was obviously

talented at lots of different

jobs and was very hands on. He had very high standards and clearly took pride in his work. Any problems with any of the work, he corrected immediately without question. Anything we asked for was never a problem and actually he also solved problems with creative suggestions.” One such issue was the placement of the beams in the kitchen. “We were adamant that we didn’t want all the supporting beams to be visible and the foreman worked hard to come up with a solution to hide them all,” says Debbie. The flexibility of the build team also impressed the couple – the project evolved and the couple were able to make changes

and add things without feeling this was a problem. Having to effectively live with builders for months on end can be challenging, but Debbie says the builders were respectful of the family, “They always made sure they tidied up as much as they could because we were living in the house and they were all really friendly and courteous – they even used to help me in with the shopping, which was very sweet!” It’s easy to see how the transformation of this house has changed family life. “It feels like a whole new house, which is lovely. I’ve got so much more space for work with lots of natural light,” smiles Debbie.

“We have also

recommended L&E to friends and they have been really happy too.”
