Maintaining security of power supply at Northern Ireland’s prestigious Grand Central Hotel
The Grand Central Hotel is Ireland’s largest hotel following a £53million pound investment by Hastings Hotel, Northern Ireland’s premier hotel group. Located within the heart of Belfast and billed as the tallest building in Northern Ireland, the 304-room luxury bedroom hotel recently received a containerised diesel generator installed and commissioned by Edina to maintain the security of the power supply.

hotel extends an additional 104 guest-rooms and stretches over 22 storeys, with the 23rd floor occupied by The Observatory, Ireland’s highest bar. As part of the hotel’s power requirement,
mechanical and electrical services provider Michael Nugent Ltd awarded Edina the contract to supply and install a 400kVA diesel generator. Edina has a long-standing history in
delivering power generation solutions across a number of industry sectors to include; hospitals, universities, commercial, industrial, public and, leisure and hospitality. Edina has access to a wide range of diesel

energy resilience strategy which mitigates against energy-related failures that negatively impact operational, financial and the reputation of a business. In the event of a mains failures, the

centres, airports, industrial and commercial facilities, and power plants, standby generators are used as a preventative measure whereby the loss of power directly puts lives at risk, influences financial loss or where emergency power is required on a continuous basis. Standby generators provide peace of mind
and offer maximum reliability, respond to outages quickly and can accept high electrical loads. During periods of prolonged power outage,
a standby diesel generator can be used to power the gas-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plant back online. Once the CHP generator has accepted the
electrical load of the site, the standby diesel generator can then reduce its load and eventually return offline. This method enables the CHP to run in
Island Mode, independent from the electricity grid, to provide power to the site infrastructure. By integrating CHP generators alongside
standby diesel generators, can help to minimise operational costs and to reduce emissions. Whatever the power requirement, Edina
says it can provide the full EPC contract to include standby diesel power generation with any new or existing CHP installation. As a company spokesman puts it: “Our
