Foundation degree in Physical Education and Physical Activity

The Foundation degree in Physical Education and Physical Activity qualification is designed for people who are, or would like to be involved with physical education, physical activities and coaching in mainstream and special schools, afterschool clubs, holiday schemes and clubs for children and young people. It is likely that you will be a teaching assistant or a sports coach delivering PE and sport in an educational setting.

The degree in Physical Education and Physical Activity will provide you with an excellent opportunity for a work based higher education qualification. On successful completion of the course you will also be eligible to go on to gain a BA Physical Education & Physical Activity degree (validated at CCCU, and lasts one year). After that, there are additional pathways available to train as a qualified teacher, or Masters qualifications.

This foundation degree is a two year, one day per week, work-based programme, which enables you to gain a qualification

whilst continuing to work. The course develops a sound knowledge and understanding base, communication skills, competencies and skill for teachers, coaches and physical activity professionals involved with children and young people. You will study twelve modules (six each year). Learning takes place in the workplace, 10 hours per week, and at university 36 days per academic year, one day per week, in line with school term dates.

She Rallies: increasing girls’ participation in tennis.

She Rallies is a fantastic initiative from LTA and Judy Murray who are on a mission to get more girls playing tennis. We are delighted that their free Lil Miss- Hits training has arrived in Kent.

On Friday 19 October from 2pm - 5pm you can access free Lil Miss-Hits training at Deal Indoor Tennis Centre delivered by the Kent ambassador Lyndall Newton-Early. This training is ideal for female teachers, support staff, sports leaders and coaches.

Multi-Skills Level 2 in Kent this year

Course dates: Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 December 2018 (9am to 5pm)

Assessment date: Saturday 26 January 2019 (9am to 5pm)

Venue: Polo Farm Sports Centre, Canterbury

The Multi-Skills Level 2 provides the knowledge and understanding to introduce and improve fundamental movement skills and sport-specific skills through multi-skills activities. This valuable course is ideal for coaches working in schools, or other non- teaching staff who wish to learn more about delivering multi-skills activities. It is also suitable for club coaches keen to develop the fundamental skills with their younger age groups.

Ideally you will already have a sport specific Level 2 or be working towards it, similarly if you have completed a school sport or physical education course you would be eligible for the award.

For more information and to register your interest visit the Sport Structures website and search the South East course on 01/12/18.

Lil Miss-Hits will develop the skills needed to play tennis, but it’s a non-technical course so you don’t need to be a qualified coach to

deliver it. Each session lasts 45 minutes and is full of simple skill building activities and games. Although designed to encourage more girls aged 5-8 to take part, the activities can be used in mixed lessons across the school.
