PULSE Kent & Medway’s PE, School Sport and Physical Activity Wheel
How do you currently track the impact that the PE and sport premium has made in your primary school? Do you have all of your evidence in separate folders? Are you using lots and lots of paper to keep everything together?
How would you feel about having a system that allows you to keep everything in one place?
The PE, school sport and physical activity wheel is an innovative online tool which uses a simple framework to:
create and communicate a shared vision for PE, school sport and physical activity across the school
establish where you are, where you want to be and how to get there.
identify appropriate solutions to meet your vision.
evidence and celebrate the impact of the PE and sport premium and other programmes
be part of a community of learning with shared best practice across schools.
The framework outlines nine key areas and learning journeys within these areas to support self-assessment and evidence progression. It covers culture and ethos, workforce and CPD, subject leadership, curriculum, learning and assessment, pupil outcomes, health and well being, competition, whole school improvement and partnerships. Kent Sport has created a slightly different version to what is shown on this page, but it fundamentally looks the same.
Using the wheel gives you the ability to quickly and easily attach evidence such as policies, data, photos, videos, documents etc. simply by uploading them via your computer. It can also generate a written report which can be shared on your school website, with OFSTED and/or the wider community to help share best practice.
Saving and naming assessments on the wheel also enables you to show impact and progress year-on- year which can help you identify gaps in provision and also help you plan how to utilise your funding moving forwards.
Over 1,500 schools are already using this innovative online tool.

“The Wheel was so simple to use, made logical sense and was easy to navigate and explore easily. It will allow us to see exactly how our money is being spent
10 The Kent & Medway School Sports Magazine
and to understand the impact it is having across the different areas we need to cover.”
Sam Bacon, Assistant Headteacher, St Andrew’s C of E Primary School, Horsham
“We have used the Wheel to support our use of the PE and sport premium. Having clear sections with a definition has enabled us to look and see what needs to be impacted most in our
setting. I believe that this has enabled us to use our PE premium wisely and in ways that impacts all areas of the
school. As PE Leader it has enabled me to keep track of what impact the PE
premium has had and where to focus our attention for sustainability further. We have invested a lot into real PE which has positively impacted in many of these areas. We look forward to working with Create Development
further and the impact that real legacy will have in our school.”
