SIMS Training Competition winners enjoy day out
On Monday 21 May, Kent Sport visited Flip Out in Chatham to meet the winners of the EIS SIMS training competition, Brent Primary School from Dartford.
They attended with just over 60 children who enjoyed their hour-long bounce at the trampoline park.
The competition was for the attendants of EIS’s SIMS training to support evidencing the impact of PE across the whole school.
EIS and Kent Sport combined to develop the SIMS training course to support the full tracking and analysis of primary school use of PE and sports premium funding.
This training was carried out in the form of interactive workshops to show how the schools are now able to input data corresponding with aspects of their PE provision, whilst equipping the school delegates with the ability to input data successfully.
Data that can be inputted includes attendance in extracurricular clubs, engagement in PE lessons and mapping any PE trends across year groups or different sports. The SIMS package is very versatile, and when used cohesively it can produce reports showing the impact of PE funding.
The use of SIMS as a tool for evidencing the impact of PE is an innovative and efficient way to show whole school improvement when reporting on the PE funding.
“The skills you will learn on this course can be transferred to track and monitor other key areas such as SEN provision, pupil premium funding and initiatives to improve academic attainment, behavior and attendance.”

Following contact with some of the schools that attended training, feedback was positive. All seemed to have implemented the knowledge in their own schools and have passed on information to colleagues.
“The SIMS data gives us the opportunity to track children who are taking part in various PE and sports activities and therefore also enable us to breakdown boy/girls, FSM, PP, SEND and EAL uptake. From this data, we endeavor to make the ratios in clubs match the ratios of the school to within 10%. We can then action and target groups accordingly. For example, if we have 50% girls in school and only 25% of children in clubs are girls we will then set up an
intervention, such as an all-girls club, to try and increase girls’ participation rates.”
PE leads, and teachers, can now clearly show the difference the funding is making to their schools, and produce reports for their SLT, governors and OFSTED evidencing the impact.
