Group’s investment in Äänekoski is the largest in the history of Finland’s forest industry. Having started production in 1985 the old pulp mill was approaching the end of its operating life cycle. A decision needed to be made – total


renovation of the existing mill or the construction of a new one. The decision was for a new mill, and work started in August 2015, with Valmet being chosen to supply some of the key technology islands. Metsä Group went through a


traditional tendering process for the various key technologies at the mill.
