Suffolk Textile Artist Wins Major Prize


A TALENTED Suffolk quilt artist has scooped a major in- ternational prize at Europe’s largest patchwork and quilting event, The Festival of Quilts. Susie Yates from Beccles won


the Quilt Creations category and £1,000 prize money in The Fes- tival of Quilts’ acclaimed com- petition. The Festival of Quilts takes place at the NEC in Bir- mingham each August and this year’s Festival attracted 25,000 visitors from across the world. The competition attracted over 800 entries and is judged by a panel of leading figures from the art and quilting community. The artist won praise for her


stunning entry, ‘The Gift’, which was inspired by the story of the three kings. Judges described the winning piece as: “An exquisite piece of work, full of intricate detail that rewards close examination. Technically very accomplished and designed with great skill.” Anna Baptiste, Event Director for The Festival of Quilts, said:


“The quilts entered into this competition are stitched with breathtaking detail, intricate design and outstanding work- manship. We congratulate Susie on her wonderful entry.” Susie’s prize-winning quilt


will be on display in the Textile Galleries at The Knitting & Stitching Show, the UK’s big- gest event for the textile art, craft and design community, in Lon- don (Alexandra Palace) this October and in Harrogate in November. Highlights of The Festival of

HAMMOND Isuzu, Hales- worth, continue to employ two of Britain’s best technicians. For the second consecutive year, the Suffolk based dealer- ship entered Lee Cayley and Aaron Fenn into Isuzu’s World Technician competition. To qualify, they had to pass a writ- ten examination. Having qualified for the Brit-


ish finals, they were both short- listed amongst the top Isuzu technicians in the country. The finals took place in July, where both Lee and Aaron competed at the IM Group headquarters in West Bromwich. What followed included an intense day of prac- tical and written examinations starting at 8am in the morning finishing 4pm in the afternoon. Throughout the day, they were


examined on both electrical and mechanical faults. Every assess- ment was analysed by two examiners and a photographer. One of the practical exams included a non-starting vehicle; which had a different fault from the previous year. The techni- cians had an hour to diagnose, repair the vehicle using the cor- rect procedure, and complete a written report. Lee won the competition with


Aaron taking a close third. Lee will now be going on to compete in the Isuzu World Technician Finals, which takes place in Thailand later this year. Paul Marjoram, Dealer Princi-
