Templewicks
SORRY that I missed last month’s update, I couldn’t find time to do it before holiday, nice to be busy though. Recent articles in the national
press have highlighted that first- time buyers in London are look- ing further afield to get onto the housing ladder; apparently as far as Ipswich, Norwich and Peter- borough, due to house price increases over the last few months. Here in Beccles we have certainly seen changes in the market month by month. We experienced a strong start to the year with a peak in May of prop- erties coming to the market. We have seen more first-time buyers the last few months and feel a lot has to do with the lack of prop-
erty being purchased by investor landlords due to the increased prices and thus being unable to achieve their desired yield return. With the children back at school and the holidays over, more people are now thinking of placing their property on the market. Here at Templewicks we don’t just offer a ‘one size fits all service’. Our sales packages are tailored to your needs and bud- get. With the cost of selling your home with a local agent costing on average around £3,000 and the news released just last week that house prices could decrease by 35% in the event of a “no- deal Brexit”, you will want to hang onto as much cash as you can. We understand that agents fees can have a detrimental effect on your forward plans and that’s why we have introduced our NEW 3 TIER MARKET- ING SOLUTION with packages starting as low at £899 incl VAT. Give us a call to learn more. I am Jon Wicks, Managing
Director at Templewicks Estate Agents.

IF you’ve been thinking about giving up your free time to help children but have never got around to it, you are in luck, because the NSPCC in Suffolk needs you. The children’s charity is on
the look-out for new volunteers to help deliver its Speak Out Stay Safe service in primary schools in the county. The programme gives a gen-
eration of children the knowl- edge and understanding they need to stay safe from abuse and neglect through age-appropriate safeguarding assemblies and workshops. Pupils are taught to speak out
if they are worried, either to a trusted adult or to Childline. Volunteers spoke to 21,575
children in Suffolk this academ- ic year (2017-18), delivering assemblies to 123 schools in the county. Lorna Stather is a retired
teacher from Lowestoft who has been volunteering with the NSPCC for four years – almost as long as the service has existed. Lorna, 63, said: “Having been a teacher with safeguarding

responsibilities for so many years, I know how reluctant chil- dren can sometimes be to speak up, and I wanted to help with this and give something back with the experience I have. I like the messages we are giv-
ing to children, and I wish this kind of thing had been around years ago. The importance of telling a child they can speak up about abuse shouldn’t be under- estimated. Even if we make things easier for just one child it’s worth it. As a former teacher, I can really appreciate the mate- rial used in the assemblies and workshops is very cleverly writ- ten. It has obviously been tri- alled and tested, and we know we are working with something that can really help children to understand things. Seeing that a child has really engaged with what you’ve told them is a reward in itself.” Katy Cole, Schools Service
Area Coordinator, said: “We have had children who have spo- ken out about abuse as a direct result of our volunteers going into schools delivering the pro- gramme. It is so rewarding for
the volunteers to know they have directly helped a child, and we give every one of them excellent training so they know how to manage these situations. I really admire that the volunteers give up their time to make a differ- ence to the lives of children.” To apply to become a volun-
