Veggie Days open house


DELTA – Three greenhouses in the Lower


Mainland opened their doors to the public at the beginning of May. BC Veggie Days events were held at Westcoast Vegatables Ltd. in Delta, Sunnyside Greenhouses Ltd. in Surrey, and Garvis Farms in Abbotsford. During the tour, people had the chance to view the inner workings of greenhouses. It was also the first year that BCGGA teamed up with local schools through the BC Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation to invite 845 students from 28 schools ranging from kindergarten to grade 11. Sister Mary Bethany from Cloverdale Catholic School says the “marvelous experience” of touring greenhouses added to a budding horticulture education already growing among students. “It's already a climate and a culture where they're


really excited about feeding their worms and growing their vegetables,” she says. “I think [Veggie Days] just continues to promote that. If you're not continually feeding that it's not going to grow and they're not going to be excited about it.”
