Blackberry Smoke The Southern Ground Sessions (3 Legged Records) Never a band to rest
on their laurels, Black- berry Smoke releases a new acoustic EP on
October 26th. The Southern Ground Sessions features acoustic versions of five of the songs from their latest LP, Find a Light, along with a nice cover of Tom Petty’s “You Got Lucky, featuring Amanda Shires, who is also featured on “Let Me Down Easy.” Fans have already heard “Mother Mountain” featuring Oliver Wood, and the EP also houses stripped ver- sions of “Run Away From It All,” “Medicate My Mind.” and my personal favorite, “Best Seat in the House.” I for one love the acoustic side of Blackberry Smoke just as much as the cranked-up electric side, and this EP is a true gift from one of the hottest young bands working today. Get you some.

The Louvin Brothers Love and Wealth: The Lost Recordings (Modern Harmonic) The legendary coun-
try duo the Louvin Broth- ers dominated the charts during their hey day
(1956-1963), and now never before released
Savoy Brown You Should Have Been There (Panache Records) Savoy Brown’s latest
album, You Should Have Been There! is a colossal dose of live electric blues.
demo recordings from their earliest sessions will be released as Love and Wealth: The Lost Recordings on September 28th. The two-cd set is packed with 29
recordings as well as one spoken word piece, and the set includes expensive liner notes by writer Colin Escott and photos of the broth- ers. The Louvin Brothers truly are legends, having been cited as an influence by the likes of Dolly Parton, Vince Gill, the Byrds, Emmy- lou Harris and Gram Parsons, among others. Many great bluegrass acts modeled their har- monies after those of the Louvins. including the Osbourne Brothers and the Country Gen- tlemen. The songs in this astounding set were
originally cut as songwriting demos at Capitol Records, but they are fully worked up ver- sions of the songs recorded in the 1950’s and filed away for the next six decades. The songs here can hold their on beside any of the tunes in the Louvin catalog. It truly is like finding buried treasure. Ira and Charlie were regular perform-
ers on the Grand Ol Opry, and they were in- ducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001. Love and Wealth features some of the Louvin’s finest tunes, including “Take the Ring from Your Finger,” “Are You Missing Me,” “Streamlined Heartbreaker,” “Preach the Gospel,” “Born Again,” “You’ll Forget,” and “I’ll Never Go Back.” Love and Wealth is nothing less than an essential piece of country music history. Good stuff.
