mixology INSIDEOUT FROM PARIS, WITH LOVE

by cesar a reyes photography by jay jones

InsideOUT has become the talk of the town

and at the head of its ship is one of our favorite performers, and the local “IT” girl,Aris Quion, better known asParis Sukomi Max. We had a chance to talk to the hard working Paris to find out how InsideOUT came to be and how she has gotten to be in command.

For the people living under a rock, please tell us who Paris Sukomi Max is? Hmmm…I like to thinkParis Sukomi Maxisa Jack or

Jill of all trades. I’ve been a drag entertainer for 12 years now, a clothing designer since I was 11, as an educator, community volunteer, activist, fundraiserand in the restaurant business. I’ve been in love with Hillcrest for as long as I can remember, so being able to be a part of such a dynamic community really is an honor I don’t take lightly. I was born and raised in San Diego and my mom actually turned to The Center for support when I came out in middle school. Growing up without many positive references to homosexuality, San Diego Pride at age 14, was the experience that told me I was going to be okay. As a young adult trying to find who they were, Hillcrest became my stage and my space for discovery at a time I wanted so badly to be anyone but myself. Paris, came from me needing an outlet for expression, creativity, gender freedom, and to just feel good about just being me. How did you become involved with InsideOUT?

I’ve been a part of the MO’s Universe family for quite

some time now, but in different capacities. From entertain- ment, to event production, to hosting and then eventually management. Matt Ramon approached me years ago about wanting me to jump into this adventure with him and it didn’t take a second thought for me to say, “Yes.” Matty and I have always had a great working relationship, but on top of that a great friendship and the culture that Chris Shaw and the MO’s Universe group has created is really mind-blowing. It shows through having team members still with the company who have been there since the beginning, through having guests who have been coming for decades, and through a community who has called any of our MO’s Universe locations their home, their go-to place, and their safe space.
