SOUTH BAY PRIDE ART AND MUSIC FESTIVAL San Diego’s South Bay is proud—very proud—and their Pride Festival

onSaturday, September 8 is as well! South Bay Alliance’s goal has been to not only create a celebration of LGBTQ community and educational outreach, but also to provide funds in order to assist in creating a bi-national resource center in the south San Diego County and border region. Since its inception, the original event put on in 2007 was a small picnic-style waterfront gathering with Laura Jane as DJ and attended by 200 people. One year later, their first official South Bay Pride Music Festival was attended by about 700, then in 2015 with the addition of great DJs, events and more vendors/exhibitors, attendance shot up 200 percent. Last year’s fest was attended by an estimated 16,000 attendees and expected attendance for 2018 should exceed 18,000. Entertainment for 2018 feature: East of Eli with Chyler Leigh,RuPaul’s Drag Racealum Ongina, along with the Divas, Ingenue, The Social Animal, Karina Frost and The Banduivloons, Network and The Drag Kings. Best of all… it’s free! For tickets and more information, go to southbaypride.org.

LGBTS IN THE NEWS Join moderator Thom Senzee along with top journalists

and community organizers for a unique panel discussion about the merits of PrEP onSaturday, September 22at MO’s Bar & Grill. It’s been nearly six years since its introduc- tion and more people than ever are asking if, how and when they should take Gilead Science’s prescription-only, once-a-day prophylaxis. Headlining panelist andPOZ Magazine editor at large, Benjamin Ryan, leads the conversation. “It is not my job to promote PrEP, but to advance an up-to-date understanding of the science behind PrEP. That’s not just the science about how it works for the individual, but research about how it is winding its way into the health care system and how it works on a public-health level. People often ask me, simplistically, if I’m, ‘pro- or anti-PrEP.’ I tell them they’re asking the wrong question.”” Other panelists include: community organizer Lukas Volk, UCSD’s Susan Little, M.D., Timothy Brown, “The Berlin Patient,” and Blossom Brown, the noted PrEP navigator. Questions can be submitted during the panel engagement via LGBTs In The News Facebook page or by twitter direct messaging @lgbtsinthenews. Email questions to info@lgbtsinthenews.com. A live stream link prior to the event is available at lgbtsinthenews.com.
