Marks First Year Congregants support the endowment by honoring special milestones
BY FAY MACKEY AND JOHN ROWLEY
It has been one year since the launch of the Birthday Club. People of all ages have made their first contribution, including the toddler shown in the photo below. The response has been very gratifying and extremely beneficial to the growth of our church endowment.
THE BIRTHDAY CLUB
BECOME A MEMBER OF
• Give a gift in your birthday month in the amount of your new age.
• And/or give a gift in honor or recognition of someone else’s birthday, with amounts from $1 to $100 and up.
• You are then a Birthday Club member!
• Find Birthday Club envelopes in Sanctuary pews and Birthday Club donation boxes by the church office, in the hallway near the Sanctuary side door, and outside Fellowship Hall near the exterior door.
Note: Soon those who attend alternative worship services will have easy access to Birthday Club donation envelopes. Watch for new display holders in Fellowship Hall.
Tere have been many gifts that have honored the donor’s own birthday, but also gifts that have honored a husband or wife, a child, a grandchild, or a dear friend. Tere was even an anonymous gift of $186 that honored the church’s 186th birthday. Te Birthday Club allows a wide cross section of our congregation to give at their comfort level while doing something fun and special to celebrate this special day.
As of July 31, our church received 115 gifts to the Birthday Club totaling $7,192. Tese Birthday Club donations become “forever” gifts that keep on giving in perpetuity as the church’s endowment supports the church’s mission and ministry through DIG, faith formation, community outreach, and many other ministries. It’s exciting that the Birthday Club is growing. Stop by the festively decorated bulletin board outside the church library, see who the month’s honorees are (indicated by names on cupcakes), and wish them a happy birthday.
A sincere thank-you to everyone who supported our Birthday Club in this inaugural year! We hope to continue that success in the coming year. Tink about birthdays coming up and celebrate them with this God-touched gesture to honor this time of someone’s life blessings.

Top right: Congregant and Birthday Club member Kate Kareha and her son, Owen, make a birthday donation. “We use church as a tangible way to explain gratitude and generosity to our toddler,” Kareha says. “Te Birthday Club and the donation box itself was a way that he could take part in giving back. We used the excitement of his birthday and all his gifts to show him that the best response for gratitude is generosity. It will become an annual tradition for us.”
