Rinsing isn’t something that you want to
do inside the Mud Zone however—the idea is to let the clay dry and then do so—it pulls the dead skin and toxins from your body leaving your skin refreshed and invigorated. It really does work and was the perfect primer for the next step in our spa journey. Ah the Grotto…kind of brings up images
of Hugh Hefner and scantily-clad bunnies now doesn’t it? Part of the Mud Zone, the Grotto is a quick elevator ride down to an otherworldly area akin to a Tolkien Middle Earth cave. It’s dark, dank, steamy and underground, thankfully though there isn’t a ring-obsessed Gollum lurking about. Patient staff members are however, offering warm bowls of goo and large, soft brushes for covering you in the spa’s slick, lavender-scented moisturizing treatment. A steamy, hot cavern follows, allowing the potion to work its magic and leaving you with baby-soft skin. Hint: Don’t rush this part, the longer you
stay covered in the slick goo, the bigger benefit! I wouldn’t recommend moving too fast anyway, you’re slippery as can be! A quick rinse precluded the wonderful
lunch at the Ivy Zone’s Kitchen. Their farm-to-table approach to food offers healthy, California-inspired cuisine, featuring organic and locally grown ingredients, some harvested right on the property. I basked in the Mediterranean Salad, with Gem lettuce, diced chunks of herb-marinated farm-raised chicken breast, Kalamata olives, marinated grilled artichoke hearts, piquillo peppers, sun dried tomatoes and a parmesan lemon caper vinaigrette. Others in my party partook of the Poke Salad, Turkey Avocado Club and a couple of the Flatbread Pizzas: the Margarita and the BBQ Chicken. All servings were huge, surprisingly fresh and delicious! Hint: Make sure to hit the Ivy Kitchen
before the strike of noon, otherwise you’ll be waiting in a long line! Massage time for me! And, let me tell
you, nothing could have prepared me for their Aromausoul Elements treatment. It was an intense, deep-tissue Swedish massage given by one of their certified therapists, using orange, bergamot, basil

and anise essential oils. The experience left me wonderfully sapped, so much so, I neglected to get the name of my wonderful masseuse…d’oh! Hint: This is one of the things you
definitely want to investigate online and book before you arrive! I reconnected with friends at the Healing and Therapy Zone’s Saline Pool, its Epsom salts doing wonders for my newly-released muscles! We spent the rest of the day hopping from pool to cabana, bath to boutique and bar, culminating in an evening celebration inside the resort’s newest addition, The Secret Garden. The GM explained that the resort has many expansion plans for the adjacent 65-acre plot owned by the resort: a 90-room GOCO Retreat with a comprehensive wellness center, a Medi-Spa, organic farm and retail village, hiking trails, additional hot springs bathing zones, an education center for holistic medicine and a possible real estate component with 125 residential units. Hint:Make the trip to this heavenly spot
and let go for a day and play. It’s so worth the effort and your skin, body and spirit will thank you for it.
