was not fi shing. The fi rst few were fi berglass hulls with stick-built decks and cabin. In the 1990s Wade built moulds for two deck/cabin versions: traditional cabin and the daysailor. Over the years he developed jigs to make the construction easier and quicker, while also keeping the cost down. Bill got all the jigs and he said, “They make sense once I fi nd them, it's just fi guring them out. I usually fi gure out how they work after the fact.” One of the methods Bill discovered was
Wade used a split bulkhead and he puts it in after the deck is on. Bill explained, “I put mine in while it's in the mould to hold the shape. Wade would just use a spreader bar and hold the shape, until it was time for the bulkhead. There are a couple of reasons for that, his moulded deck as it turns out, would drop right in if you had the hull spread a little bit, but I had to trim mine to drop in and of course when I told him after the fact, he said ‘oh, yeah, I should have told you that.’ Next time I know about the bulkhead.”

Calvin Beal 50 hull, which is going to Brad- ley Simmons’ shop in East Boothbay to be fi nished. They have a Young Brothers 45, being
fi nished off as a sportfi sherman. For ac- commodations she has an island berth, two bunks on the starboard side, full head, closet and Awlgripped inside. The galley is up and there are three Pompanette seats, with oiled teak for a fi nish. For power she has a 1150-hp Caterpillar, which should push her along at about 30 knots. She needs fi nish work and
The big push is to get her done so he
can take it to the Newport boat show, where he hopes to get people interested in building more of them. He will be on land right in front of the Moorings Restaurant, which is a high traffi c area. He has a website and there has been some inquiries, but he is hoping for some orders this winter. When he is done with this one and she is sent to the paint shop Bill said he will concentrate on the marketing aspect, getting a booth created and brochures made. Bill added, “I need to get my name out there more. I was working full-time and doing this and it wasn't really working. I think once people know that they are back out there the interest will grow.” After the Newport boat show, he is
thinking maybe the new Small Boat Show in Portland the end of September and then maybe the Maine Boatbuilders Show. He thought about Annapolis as an option, but fi gured that was a stretch. If you are interested in a Bridge’s Point

wiring and will probably not be launched until early this fall. Also under construction is a Calvin
Beal 36, which they are fi nishing out as a gentleman's lobsterboat. Right now they are off ering a Calvin Beal 34 hull and top. Stuart Workman said, “We've got a little spot and we want to get one or two of them going. Actually we are building one on speculation. I've already got a couple of people knocking on the door for it.”
If you are looking for something bigger
than a 36, how about a Calvin Beal 42, which they could start later this summer.
