Solent Hall The Stalls

Conference would not be the same without retail therapy, especially with ladies present. The stalls at Bournemouth did not disappoint! Clothes, handbags, jewellery, shoes, what more could a girl want? The Inner Wheel stall also did good business, with its ever-increasing range of IW branded goods. These are a great way for us to promote Inner Wheel!

But the purpose of the stalls is not just to buy items but to give a presence to charities large and small. There was an excellent mix of international and GB and I charities. All were very keen to give information which can provide choices for clubs to support. President Liz and IIW President Kapila both enjoyed their visit to the Solent Hall.

As usual registration was busy as people met up with friends. Dorothy Cree

A Celebration of Unity and Service

A cold crisp morning awaited the delegates as they headed off for the first day of Conference at the Bournemouth International Centre. The Bournemouth Area Fellowship Band was a hearty backdrop to the greetings as friends were reunited.

Reverend Catherine Forsdike, MoC for District 8, welcomed everyone before voices joined in singing the first hymn, “Praise my Soul, the King of Heaven”. Following a response prayer, the traditional Inner Wheel Prayer was led by Linda Fellas, First Vice-Chairman of D8. The Choir of D8 and D24 delighted the audience with “You Raise Me Up”.

D24 Chairman Celia Clark read “Let Us Remember” by Malala Yousafzai with the powerful words, “Let us make our future now and let us make our dreams tomorrow’s reality”. The audience fell silent as Sara Eastham, D8, sang “Bridge Over Troubled Water”.

Members listened intently to two further readings. “I See the World” by Anne Frank was read by Elaine Parker, Chairman D19, then Margaret Mortimer, President of IW Club of Great Yarmouth read Maya Angelou’s, “Be a Rainbow in someone else’s Cloud”. The three readings were written by remarkable women, at different times in their lives, but words that have spanned time and divides.

Monday Evening Get Togethers

Judging by the number of happy smiling faces, the Monday evening get-togethers had once again proved very enjoyable. President Liz managed a whistle stop tour of quite a number – she must have had a very good chauffeur!

The audience rose to sing “Make Me a Channel of Your Peace” before Gillian Smith, Chairman, D8 read from the Bible about Lady Wisdom (Proverbs 9:1-12). “Live wisely and wisdom will permeate your life. Mock life and life will mock you.” In Reverend Catherine’s final address, she felt Lady Wisdom knew how to throw a dinner party and would make a great Inner Wheel member. We truly are united in service as ordinary women, making an extraordinary difference.

This year the collection was for Alzheimer’s Research UK with the collection total being £8982.64.
