the Church Council, and a fundraiser extraordinaire. She is President of the St. Mary’s Church Centre, a community service provision where all are made welcome.
• Margaret’s personal mantra is “If I can – I will”. Margaret Day is indeed a worthy recipient of the Margarette Golding Award, which is a fitting recognition of her extraordinary efforts in many diverse organisations.

How was it for you? I refer, of course, to those who were fortunate enough to go to Conference and Convention. To those of you not able to make the journeys, I hope others in your Clubs and Districts have shared their experiences with you.
However, you can now share in the highlights of the Conference thanks to the efforts of all the members of the Publications Committee who act as our reporters. Haven’t they done well! There were many highlights at Bournemouth in a Conference ably overseen by Association President Liz. Topics covered by our speakers were extremely varied and it is impossible to give more than a flavour of the proceedings.
• Margaret Day has been a supporter of The Gambia School appeal since its inception back in 1988. The charity has benefited considerably from her involvement. She has travelled to Gambia on numerous occasions to assess the needs of schools and pupils. She has been totally committed to fundraising activities needed to achieve success in many selected projects. One of the most recent has been her fundraising for a new 3 classroom block at Kerr Alaghi Malik and the successful shipment of much school furniture and supplies from the United Kingdom to The Gambia. With Margaret’s commitment and support this small but vital charity has benefited children in over 30 schools in the very poor North bank region of The Gambia. In 2012 Margaret was invited to become a Trustee of this small but important charity and in true character she immediately agreed.
• Margaret’s commitment to the Guiding movement is legendary. Her involvement commenced as a young girl in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. Following her attendance at Matlock Teacher Training College she became totally involved in the Guiding movement in the county of Derbyshire. An indication of some of her commitments and achievements are: Division Commissioner (1979- 1988), Assistant County Commissioner / Trainer / Mentor / Leadership Mentor / Area Co-ordinator / District Secretary / District Treasurer. She was a vital key component of Peak International Guide Camps where her involvement continues. Margaret was awarded a Girl Guiding Laurel Award in 2005 in recognition of outstanding service to the Guiding movement at all levels.
• Margaret is a proactive member of her local church and the community in which she lives. She is a member of
Melbourne – half a world away but very close to home in the warmth of the welcome and the sense of the greatness of Inner Wheel. If you feel you get the big picture at Conference, my goodness you get the whole cinema at Convention! Different costumes, different cultures but one purpose – that of celebrating the world-wide organisation that is Inner Wheel.
It seems very odd to be thinking of the Autumn Association magazine well before summer has come. However, the deadline for material for the Autumn magazine is 20th June.
Best wishes Dorothy (
