Liskeard Show 2018

Cattle and sheep classes take centre stage

T

he cattle and sheep classes are always one of the highlights of the show enjoying competitors from Cornwall to Somerset, judges coming from Wales, Kent and Northamptonshire as well as more locally based.

There are one hundred and forty three sheep classes. The Champion judged by Mr B Davies from Powys in Wales. The new Fleece Competition

proved a great success last year with over 25 fleeces being on display, so they will continue this year with the Wool Spinners in the same marquee.

This year there are forty eight cattle classes. The Supreme Champion and Beef Interbreed Special Prizes being judged by Mr E Mills from Bristol, Avon and the Dairy Interbreed Special Prizes by Mr M Grose from Helston. We would like to thank Kernow Farm & Equine for sponsoring the Cattle Section.

The Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association has organised a Cornish Points Championship whereby points will be offered towards Prizes of first £100 and second £50 in both the open cattle and sheep classes for the exhibitors gaining the most points over the 2018 Cornish Summer show season.

Points will be accumulated at Liskeard, Launceston, Woolsery, North Devon, Okehampton, Dunster and Holsworthy/Stratton shows and overall winners prizes awarded at the last show.

There will be a parade of prize winning cattle and presentation of cups in the cattle ring at 3.30pm.

Horse Section

There are seventy eight classes to watch during the day from Shetland ponies, hunters, retrained race horses, Skewbald and Piebald ponies to open driving classes for ponies and horses as well as side saddle costume, Concours d’Elegance. Unaffiliated Show Jumping makes a popular return this year as well as the Heavy Horses
