Liskeard Show 2018
Message from the President I feel privileged to have been asked
to be President of Liskeard Show for 2018. I became Membership Secretary to the Show in late 1990 for a period of seven years. Living near the site at Merrymeet, I have been involved in various capacities ever since.
I have done a little research and this year is the 30th show to be held at Trengrove, moving from Tregay Farm, Addington where it had been held for 31 years since 1956. It never ceases to amaze me how much time and effort goes into staging our show. It is a one day event and is only possible by the work and enthusiasm of a very willing group of Members and helpers. Liskeard Show is one of the biggest events in the Liskeard calendar.
As well as cattle and very large sheep entries there is a host of other attractions including a very large equine following, donkeys, poultry
a great family day out
Message from the chairman We look forward to welcoming
everyone on Saturday 14th July to the 115th Liskeard and District Agricultural Show held on the showground at Merrymeet.
The Show is at the heart of the rural community in South East Cornwall and is a great opportunity for the town to meet the countryside.
Phil Whitehead Show president and dog show to mention a few.
This year sees new Secretaries in the poultry section and shopping and craft marquee. I wish Roger Thomas and Claire Wevell well in their roles.
The weather plays a large part in the show. Over the years we have had quite a variation as is to be expected at an outdoor event. I just hope and pray that it is on our side this year and that everyone enjoys the event.

In this area agriculture plays a large part and some of the finest livestock will be on display in our cattle, sheep and horse sections.
South East Cornwall has many food and craft producers and these will be exhibiting in the Cornish Food, Shopping/Craft marquees, along with in the Homes and Gardens marquee.
All trade stand places both inside marquees and outside were booked months ago with a vast range to interest everyone.
The Domestic marquee is always well supported with exceptional entries in floral art, cookery, handicraft and the support of local Schools, Colleges, groups and individuals is much appreciated.
Within the Countryside Area there will be interesting displays to
Show chairman Colin Dymond
include model farm yards, pet’s corner, poultry and Young Farmers activities.
With the main ring attractions and all the other entertainments a full day can be spent at the Show.
The Committee and helpers have spent much time during the past twelve months preparing for this year’s Show. I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who gives their time freely to ensure we have a successful day. We very much hope that you will enjoy what promises to be an exciting day.
Hope to see you all at the Show. Fingers crossed for good weather.
Beckie Breyley, General Secretary
Whilst writing this message, I cannot quite believe that this will be my fourth show as General Secretary. They do say that time flies when you’re having fun!
This year we have an action packed day of attractions, agriculture, trade and entertainment. The Committee pride themselves in trying to arrange a show that has something for everyone.

Each year we try and organise new attractions and displays as well as all the popular regular entertainment and classes. This year is no exception. We welcome the Unaffiliated Show Jumping and Heavy Horse classes as well as a “tractor display with a difference” and “ The Woolly Jumper Show” (with live sheep!) in the Countryside Area. Plus a first ever for Liskeard Show, Terrier Racing! This fast and furious event could be a total frenzy in the main ring. Please bring your dog along to take part. It’s not just for terriers, all dog breeds can enter and various races will be held, all free to enter.
The Countryside Area continues to grow and has become a very popular area of the show. New at the show this year we have a Remote Control Tractor Course for the youngsters (me included!) as well as some KuneKune pigs and some British Boer Goats. Also watch out for the Young Farmers Sheep Shearing plus
demonstrations by the Weavers, Thatchers and Blacksmiths.
A new data protection law (GDPR) has come into force this year to protect personal information. The Association is doing all it can in putting policies and procedures in place for members, exhibitors, traders and organisations to abide by the new law.
Thank you to the Committee for all their support over the last 12 months and thank you in advance to the general public for coming along to the show and continuing to support and encourage our wonderful , local agricultural show.
