LKAB MINERALS UK EMPLOYEES RAISE £5,500 FOR MACMILLAN

On Monday 12th March 2018, employees from LKAB Minerals UK met with Jamie Davenport from Macmillan Cancer Support, to hand over a cheque for £5,550.

Hartside Summit on day 2; 1903 feet (580 metres) above sea level, it was the highest climb of the challenge!

The majority of the fundraising was achieved through the support of LKAB Minerals Coast-to-Coast Cycling challenge. Held over two and a half days, the event saw 20 employees from across LKAB Minerals' UK sites, cycle from Whitehaven, Cumbria on the west coast, to Sunderland, County Durham in the East; a total of 126 miles (203km).

At the end of the 2 ½ days of cycling, having completed 126 miles (203km) in the saddle!

Darren Wilson, Managing Director for LKAB Minerals Europe commented 'it is important to celebrate such a successful year of fundraising. The cycling event was one of the hardest physical challenges many of the participants have ever had to face, and this milestone is recognition of their endurance and commitment. Macmillan is a charity close to the hearts of so many, with most of us having been affected directly or indirectly by cancer. We are proud to have achieved such a significant amount in 2017.'

Jamie Davenport, Macmillan Fundraising Manager said 'I can't thank the team at LKAB enough for their commitment and support. Challenges like these take a huge amount of effort to organise and complete, it's a true testament to their team spirit. We rely on fundraising to fund our vital services and thanks to them we can support even more people living with cancer.'

As a guideline, the money LKAB Minerals has raised for Macmillan can provide:

• 200 nursing hours, providing practical, emotional and financial support to people living with cancer and their families.

• 22 financial grants, helping patients to heat their homes, pay for travel costs or one off purchases they cannot otherwise afford.

• 5 months of information centre support, providing simple cancer information & support, a friendly face and an opportunity to chat over a coffee.

LKAB Minerals would like to thank their customers, suppliers and individuals who supported this event for their sponsorship and donations.
