Edina wins new CHP energy project at London’s Elephant Park
Leading total solutions provider for combined heat and power (CHP), gas and diesel power generation projects, Edina, has been awarded the contract to deliver the CHP plant at Elephant Park. Elephant Park is one of the largest redevelopments in Europe, delivering 2,500 new homes, shops and restaurants over the former Heygate Estate, a 25 acre site in the London Borough of Southwark centred on the famous Elephant and Castle roundabout, reports UKPN.
E
nergy solutions provider E.ON is delivering the district heating scheme which sits at the heart of the new development, using the
combined heat and power plant to generate and supply net zero carbon heat and hot water to homes, commercial premises and community and leisure spaces across Elephant Park. International property and infrastructure

CHP plant requirement. Edina is the official UK and Ireland distributor for MWM gas engines which offer market leading efficiency, reliability, flexibility and environmental sustainability, providing low lifecycle and high profitability. The 1.6MWe CHP plant is at the heart of
E.ON’s community energy centre, which will generate an efficient supply of electricity, heat and hot water from a single natural gas source. The energy centre will also be supported
by modulated boilers to supply heat and hot water, as well as thermal stores. Both engines will be containerised within attenuated acoustic enclosures at Edina’s manufacturing facility in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, and will comply with noise level

restrictions and all health and safety regulations. Elephant Park will encompass a district heating scheme – a network of well-insulated pipes which carry heat generated from the energy centre’s CHP plant direct to homes and buildings. The district heating scheme will provide an affordable supply of heating and hot water on demand and removes the need for individual property boilers, eliminating maintenance or replacement costs. The Elephant and Castle development is
one of only 20 projects worldwide endorsed by former US President Bill Clinton’s Climate Change Foundation. The redevelopment also ensures that CO2 reduction targets are achieved for the build- ings standards legislation of Code for Sustainable Homes and Zero Carbon Homes.
