Vital Awarded £5.6m Prince of Wales Drive Energy Scheme

Vital Energi has secured the contract to supply, install and commission the energy centre and primary distribution for St William Homes LLP development at Battersea, continuing our longstanding relationship with developers, Berkeley. The £5.6 million deal will see the company provide a CHP solution for 955 apartments over 12 blocks, along with low temperature hot water and chilled water systems.

William, a joint venture between Berkeley Group and National Grid. The joint venture will unlock some of the

T

most technically complex regeneration sites in London and the South of England, into residential and mixed use spaces and will see the transformation of 33 sites, providing over 14,000 homes within the next 10-15 years. With 15 years experience in the design, delivery, operation and maintenance of Combined Heat and Power systems, Vital Energi has worked across a number of high profile, nationwide projects. Rob Callaghan, Vital Energi's Regional Director for London, commented: “We are excited to be working with the Berkeley Group again on an exciting new venture, and to be part of this fantastic project that will see further regeneration to the area. Prince of Wales Drive will be a beautiful development, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to provide the energy solution for the project.” Vital are no strangers to the Berkeley

Group, having worked with the developers on

16 other projects and holding a relationship that spans back to 2006 when work began at the Royal Arsenal, Riverside development. Vital Energi provides sustainable and renewable energy solutions in the public and private sectors and is responsible for many of the UK’s most prestigious energy projects. It can deliver all aspects of a project from energy management, generation and distribution along with metering and billing and long-term asset management or ESCo partnership. Vital Energi believes that the use of CHP in

a community energy scheme helps facilitate planning permissions, meet the requirements of the Code for Sustainable Homes and provides a key element of the carbon management and reduction strategy of an organisation. The financial benefits of cogeneration are also complemented by a series of environmental advantages. This method of energy generation has

been widely recognised as a key measure in helping to reduce harmful CO₂ emissions, with some projects, such as the National Sports Centre, Crystal Palace, reducing their emissions by 50%. At another recent project involving Vital Energi - the King’s Cross Central - Vital was

challenged with providing an energy efficient and sustainable site with minimum impact on quality of living or the availability of supply to this ambitious new Central London development. After winning the contract to install 2,000

metres of pre-insulated pipe to connect the CHP fuelled energy centre to the homes in the development, Vital Energi then went on to win the contract to design, supply and install the main T1 energy centre. Considered an exemplar project that has

proven to be a game-changer when it comes to large-scale developments, Vital Energi’s systems have an estimated carbon saving of 50% when combined with other renewable technologies. www.vitalenergi.co.uk
