an accredited Brazilian laboratory with capabilities exists. In the United States, we may


sometimes fail to appreciate that the safety of our highways, railways, and skies comes from well-established workplace drug testing requirements for safety-sensitive workers. However, we must not overlook the fundamental purpose behind these programs. Brazil’s nascent hair testing regulations


were created to protect its people in a public safety crisis. Perhaps as testing continues, its citizens can begin to count on and expect safe roadways. While Brazil learned from best practices in the United States, we should pay close attention to Brazil’s strides in making a difference through drug testing. ❚
