he annual Drumsista Benefit Concert, sponsored by DRUMZ and directed by Sherry Gingras, will

take place at 7:30 p.m., June 2, at Unity Church of the Hills. Tis musical extravaganza features the music of West Africa performed by the amazing Drumsisters, a group of women from a 14-week performance class taught by Gingras at DRUMZ. Tere will also be a featured opening set performed by Te Djembabes, Gingras’ professional all-women’s DrumSong Ensemble. Tis year’s beneficiary is Posada Esperanza, a local

organization dedicated to helping reestablish the women and children finding a future and a new life in Austin as refugees from countries embroiled in violence, perse- cution and oppression. “Tese courageous and heroic women have traveled hundreds or thousands of miles in hopes of providing a better life for themselves and their beloved children, and it is our honor and privilege to offer our help,” says Gingras.
