I’m not aware of any other country that has a ‘Season’ in addition to the four we already know about. It’s a uniquely British thing and by the time you read this, it will already be underway. In this issue we take a look at it with a view to giving our members tips on successfully navigating the many events from May to September. Troughout the Season you’ll find it’s the so-called Sport of Kings that certainly dominates. Horse racing kicked the whole thing off in March at Cheltenham and runs through much of the calendar. And while it may be the known as the Sport of Kings, it’s also the sport of the masses in this country with thousands flocking to the biggest, most glamorous and famous events and millions more tuning in on TV. If you’re new to the sport, or looking to take your interest further, our in-depth article explains it all for you.
Horsepower of a different kind, this time on four wheels, has an illustrious history in Britain and there are plenty of ways to enjoy it throughout the year. From the racetrack at Silverstone to the hill climbs at Goodwood, be sure to check out our guide to British motoring experiences. I especially love the eccentricity of the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run that takes off from Marble Arch every year.
If all the talk of racing has you exhausted, I recommend curling up with a book from one of London’s many thriving independent bookstores. We’ve highlighted some of the most interesting for you in our Arts & Culture section. In every issue we cover a broad range of topics and this one is no exception. From tips to working in a British office to a history of Savile Row to wild animal encounters to understanding the British private school system and much more, we hope you won’t race through this issue!
