POYRY IS 100-DAYS INTO COGEN PLANT PROJECT IN RAYONG,


THAILAND Pöyry is working on a contract to


provide owner’s engineer services for a gas-fired cogeneration project in Thailand. The contract from Thai project developer Global Power Synergy Public Company Ltd (GPSC) is for the first phase of a 48 MW/140 MWth plant in the eastern coastal city of Rayong. Once completed the plant will provide power and steam to industrial users in Hemaraj Eastern Industrial Estate. The first project phase will consist


of one gas turbine, one heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) with supplementary firing, steam and power distribution network to industrial consumers and auxiliary systems to support future expansion. Pöyry's assignment includes assistance in project management, design review, site supervision services, quality assurance and con- trol and commissioning supervision. The overall schedule for the contract is about two years, the company said. Pöyry had also been involved as


owner's engineer during the devel- opment phase, providing technical advisory services.


AGGREKO EXPANDS


CHINA OPERATIONS Aggreko has expanded its China


operations with a joint venture involving the power rental company Shanghai Yude, now called Shanghai Yude Aggreko Energy Equipment Rental Co Ltd. The move is part of Aggreko’s long-term strategy to grow its business in China with an experienced and respected local partner. Aggreko has taken a 21.5% equity in the new company and operations will be managed by Shanghai Yude in line with Aggreko’s standards and procedures.


SRC builds a new gas- powered cogen plant for Jurong Island,

processes up to 290,000 barrels of crude oil a day has a new gas-fired cogenera- tion plant. The 72 MWe plant supplies power and steam for Singapore Refining Company’s (SRC) new petrol clean fuels facility on Jurong Island. The facility includes a petrol desulphuri-


sation unit to reduce sulphur in petrol products, a heavy naphtha splitter to reduce benzene in petrol, and an amine treating unit to recover sulphur from the process.SRC reports that the US$500m in upgrades - including the cogen plant - have resulted in improved energy efficiency, higher quality products and a

15% reduction in SOx emissions, as well as reducing CO2 emissions by 190,000 tonnes per year. The company said the cogen plant’s output exceeds its power requirements, thus eliminating electricity expenses – which had been one of the refinery's largest operating costs.
