THE GREENSBORO TIMES Warriors will go to National Museum of African-American History and

Culture instead of White House BY THEGRIO

Trump v. the Warriors The 2017 NBA champions had their invitations withdrawn

from the White House after Donald Trump took offense to Steph Curry saying he wouldn’t be going.

“That we don’t stand for basically what our President has—the

things that he’s said and the things that he hasn’t said in the right times, that we won’t stand for it,” Curry said. “And by acting and not going, hopefully that will inspire some change when it comes to what we tolerate in this country and what is accepted and what we turn a blind eye to. It’s not just the act of not going there. There are things you have to do on the back end to actually push that message into motion.” In response, an outraged Trump tweeted, “Going to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team. Steph Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!” Going to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team.Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!

Golden State Warriors, the 2017 NBA champions. Instead, Steph Curry and his teammates will go on a tour of the National Museum of African-American History and Culture for a tour. “The White House is a great honor, but there are other circumstances that we felt not comfortable going,” all-star guard Klay Thompson said on Monday night, according to the New York Post. “We’re not going to politicize anything,” Thompson said. “We’re just going to go hang out with some kids and take them to the African-American Museum and teach them things we learned along the way, life lessons and hopefully give them some great memories.”

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 23, 2017 LeBron James fired off a tweet in defense of his NBA colleague.

“U bum [Curry] already said he ain’t going! So therefore ain’t no invite.” U bum @StephenCurry30 already said he ain’t going! So therefore ain’t no invite. Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up!

— LeBron James (@KingJames) September 23, 2017

James went on to say, “Going to the White House was a great honor until you showed up.” This isn’t the first time that Trump has feuded with sports

figures, nor is it the first time that players have declined to go to the White House. And until Trump stops attacking people for speaking their mind, it’s unlikely that this pattern will change.
