FEATURE Pilton Infants' School Governor Vacancy

Are you looking for a challenge that allows you to put something back into the community? If so, becoming a school governor may be just the opportunity you need. We are looking to fill a foundation governor vacancy at Pilton Infants' School in Barnstaple, with the most important thing you can give being your time and enthusiasm.

Our governing body is made up of local authority, community, parent and staff governors.

School governors help to:  Plan the school’s future direction  Make decisions on the school’s budget and staffing  Make sure the national curriculum is taught  Decide how the school can encourage pupils' spiritual, moral and cultural development

 Make sure the school provides for all its pupils, including those with special educational needs.

To be a governor, you should be motivated and have a desire to improve the education of young people. You do not need to have special qualifications but you must be willing to have a DBS check, to read a fair amount of paperwork and attend meetings at the school, including our regular board meetings which take place about eight times a year on Tuesday evenings from 5.30 to 7.30 pm.

The work is voluntary, but gives you the opportunity to make a real and direct contribution to the education system and to the wider community. In return we will support you and give you the training you need in your new role. You can find out more about what school governors do at www.inspiringgovernance.org.

If you are interested in being a governor at Pilton Infants' School, please email mtait@piltoninfants.school or speak to the school office on 01271 342579.
