Reasons why you need media training and need it now

In these days of ever faster-moving communications, a company can find itself in the media spotlight very quickly, for a variety of reasons. If it happened to your business, would

you be prepared to be interviewed for radio, television or newspapers? Giving a poor interview, or refusing to comment at all, can be extremely damaging. Media training will help

you understand how journalism works, and how a company’s handing of the media can make or break its reputation. With the right approach, a negative story can even be turned into a positive one. Maybe your company isn’t getting

Media training will also improve the way

you communicate in many other important areas of work, such as giving presentations, addressing staff meetings, and handling difficult conversations with colleagues or clients.

right way to respond. Bowater Communications

Name: Lisa Glendenning Job Title: Events Manager

Lisa joined Devon Chamber at the end of last year, in mid-December, and has had a hectic few weeks since then picking up the reins on the Chamber’s diverse events programme and diving into planning 2018’s busy programme. Within days of starting her new role, Lisa was looking at a new venue for the Chamber’s Spring Conference, so she really hit the ground running.

Tell us about yourself I was born in Ashford, at the edge of Heathrow Airport and moved extensively throughout the country with my family. I went to university in Buckinghamshire and studied Music Industry Management and Live Production, learning how to put on world tours and festivals. I have lived in Plymouth since 2008, and

undertook a variety of roles with Plymouth City Council, including project and contract management for projects such as the Plymouth Life Centre and the History Centre. I am also a dog lover and recently became the proud owner of two Schnauzer puppies!

Tell us about your role I was interested in the role at the Chamber because I could see there were lots of areas where my previous experience could be utilised. I have had a lot of experience of joining projects and getting straight to the nub of what needs doing, collating information and planning the way forward. I have worked a lot in change management and it seemed to me that this kind of skill would be useful, particularly as the Chamber is currently engaged in modernising its services and offer to members. At present, the Chamber is very actively

engaged in building new relationships with partner organisations and looking at ways of engaging better with its members and I believe that an interesting events programme is at the heart of getting people talking to each other and ultimately, growing their businesses. The Chamber is interested in organising more

events where members are exposed to the fabulous variety of business and industry we have in the region, taking in different sectors and geographical areas. The ways in which we all do business is moving forward at such a pace, it’s an exciting time to be engaging with it!
