LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR BY LAURA SHELTON, CMP
Turning the Page W
ith the calendar page turning to yet another year, many DATIA members are developing or implementing plans to lead their organizations to greater success in 2018. Our members’ goals are no doubt diverse, multi-faceted, and involve
multiple departments and individuals within their organizations. Tese goals are not to be confused with New Year’s resolutions (which I am sure there are many of as well); they are concrete and well-planned-out maps for success to address issues previously encountered and/or build upon prior successes. Tat simple turning of a calendar page is a magical time—a time to start anew, a time to breathe in the air of change, and a time to reinvigorate enthusiasm. With each turning of the page in this issue of DATIA are articles aimed at assisting

members with their goals for 2018 and beyond. An article by Robert DuPont on the current opioid crisis offers new insight and ideas on the epidemic along with ways for the issue to be addressed that members can share with their clients to improve their drug-free workplace programs. Whether you are looking to increase the customer service experience of your clients, improve the consistency of your operation’s standard operating procedures, or implement new technologies and the associated procedures, training of staff is a key component. Jennie Lee Pace’s article on effective adult learning will provide you with the tools to effectively deliver the needed training. Diversification of services is a goal of many as a way to increase client satisfaction as well as gain new clients. To work towards that goal, Wendi Mader’s article will provide you with information on best practices in offering wellness programs and Tamika Carter’s article on partnering discusses the benefits of and best practices for joining forces with other organizations to mutually work towards increased growth. Finally, Sarah Logue’s article on potential liability risks is crucial for members to ensure that these risks are assessed to protect each organization against potential liabilities as they move towards their goals. We hope that members gain take-aways from each turn of the page that they can put to
use immediately or that spark ideas to create further success for their organizations. We also invite members to share with us their goals for 2018 along with any ways that DATIA can provide assistance in making those goals a reality. Such insight will assist DATIA in shaping topics for future DATIA focus articles, training courses, or other educational offerings. I’d love to hear from you. With that, please enjoy the winter issue of DATIA focus! ❚
Best,
Laura Shelton, CAE, CMP DATIA Executive Director
