from Halesworth runs in the London

Marathon 2018

YES, the girl still has the spirit and yes, the girl still wants to run! Ania Burrows from Hales-

worth has secured a place to run in the London Marathon on Sun- day 22nd April. Ania is raising money for the important charity, The Children’s Society. She has previously raised money for Sports Relief, Children in Need and now the big challenge, the London Marathon. It has been a dream of Ania to do this for many years. Ania’s mother, Helen said “I

am so proud of my daughter because every step Ania runs it will be to try and make another person’s life a little bit better. I will be there at the finishing line, Chariots of Fire will be playing, and the foil body wrap waiting!” Ania was always encouraged

and inspire to run by Mr Ben- nett, Sports teacher at Hales- worth Middle School. If you would like to sponsor

Ania please go to: www.justgiv- ing.com/fundraising/ania- burrows

win his division in emphatic style with three head kicks awarded to be given the gold. Isaac Slater also battled hard to a bronze in sparring but achieved an excel- lent silver for patterns in a large division. Juniors (13-17) achieved a

great haul of medals with Imogen Sutton’s gold for sparring and bronze for patterns and Daisy Whymark’s gold for patterns and bronze for sparring being real highlights as it was their first competition. Bailey Aldrich gained gold for patterns and sil- ver for sparring which was a fab- ulous achievement as he had stepped up to juniors being a tall 12 year old! Kelsie Dyer showed great courage to win gold for pat- terns and bronze for sparring whilst fellow Bungay High School student James Thurston won silver for patterns. Evelyn Brooks won bronze for patterns

and silver for sparring in her first tournament as well which round- ed off a superb showing for the teenagers. Adults (17+) included a fantas-

tic double gold for Jade Howgate in sparring and patterns beating team mate Poppy Whymark to a creditable double silver, as she is only just in the adult section. A great gold for Jason Drake for black belt destruction went with his silver medals for both patterns and sparring whilst Gary Wheeler won double bronze medals in his first competition as a black belt! Barbara Mazza gained a silver in the black belt ladies patterns with Paul Chapman gaining a silver for patterns and bronze for spar- ring in the coloured belt male sec- tion. Several other competitors

competed and supported superb- ly with Colby Aldrich battling to fourth place in the pee wee spar-

ring, whilst Jack and Jess Chap- man competed really well but finished just outside the medal positions, both losing out to the eventual category winners. Jacob Burden did a superb job helping to referee for the first time as a black belt and Benjamin Burden acted as junior coach. Steve King, the area 6th degree and senior, said “Bungay and Beccles achieved a fantastic 60 points and considering the distance travelled for competitors, the amount of medals won is a real testament to Eastern Taekwondo.” Now is a great time have a go at

this rewarding Olympic martial art in order to get fit for the sum- mer and your first lesson is free! The youngest students in the clubs are five years old and there is no upper age limit, check us out on www.bungay-taekwondo.co. uk or for those in Beccles www. beccles-taekwondo.co.uk

plus 30 minutes. Ingredients: 1 Lean pork loin

joint, leg or shoulder joint . Allow 100g (4oz) of raw meat per person for boneless and 225g (8oz) for bone-in joint, 2x15ml- sp (2tbsp) Oil, 15mlsp (1tbsp) Salt, 900g (2lb) Potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks, 6 Pears, 450g (1lb) Sausage meat, 5mlsp (1tsp) Ground cinnamon, 8 Bacon rashers, 1 Eating apple,

cored and cut into chunks, 2 additional Pears, 1 cored and cut into chunks, 1 cored and chopped, 150ml (¼pt) Rum Method: Pre-heat the oven.

Take the pork joint and calculate the cooking time using the tim- ings above. For crackling, dry the rind, score and rub with 15mlsp (1tbsp) oil and 15ml (1tbsp) salt. Place on a rack in a roasting tin and open roast in the oven for calculated cooking time. Approximately 50-60 min- utes before the end of cooking time add the potatoes, the pears (whole) to the roasting tin, or in a separate tray and drizzle with 15ml (1tbsp) oil (this quantity would serve about 6). Meanwhile make the stuffing:

Place the sausage meat in a bowl with the pear. Add 2.5ml (½tsp) of the ground cinnamon and mix well. Shape into 8 balls and wrap a bacon rasher around each. Bake for 30 minutes. To make the sauce, place the

the pork loin with the stuffing, roast potatoes and pears, sea- sonal green vegetables, and apple and pear sauce.
