WELCOME Message from the Harbour Master
T
he 2018 Dart Harbour Guide provides useful information for everyone who uses, or is interested in, the stunning River Dart. The
Dart Harbour and Navigation Authority (DHNA) Board Members and Staff hope that you remain safe and that your visit to the area is as enjoyable and trouble free as possible. The River Dart is one of the most beautiful rivers on the South Coast and is popular with both leisure and commercial users. Our aim is to see it flourish whilst preserving the environment for the future. We hope that you enjoy your time on the river but that you minimise the environmental impact of your activities so that the Dart remains an area of outstanding natural beauty. The river includes the bustling and historic town of
Dartmouth with all its attractions, where you will find the majority of visitors’ facilities clearly shown later in this guide. If you wish to explore further up river, there are more tranquil areas – please respect these peaceful spots so that all may enjoy them equally. The speed limit between the harbour entrance and the weir at Totnes is 6 knots. This limit reduces the risk to river users and the impact of wake which is easily felt in this waterway by users, flora and fauna alike. Please observe this and other Dart Harbour Byelaws. This information is part of the Local Notice to Mariners. For full details of the LNTM, please contact the Harbour Office or visit
www.dartharbour.org
If you have any questions about facilities, our staff will be on-hand during office hours at the Harbour Office (6 Oxford St, Dartmouth), or at callsign ‘DARTNAV’ on VHF Ch11 to answer them. For urgent issues out of hours please call the duty Harbour Master on 07968 839846. For vessels entering the port requiring berthing instructions please call on VHF as you approach the entrance. Visitors entering outside working hours should berth in accordance with the guidance on page 13 and locally signed berthing restrictions .Visitors should then contact DHNA staff during working hours.
