Foal Champions Denise E. Osborne’s Matisse (Hennessy x Bea- trice ster by Prestige VDL) was named the best dres- sage foal. Tis imposing foal received 86 points for conformation and 84 for movement. “We saw the very elegant Matisse at Iron Spring Farm. She has good dressage conformation and is very athletic. She is light on her feet and has good technique and self-carriage. A true athlete,” enthused Bart. At the same inspection we also saw the reserve champion: the Glock’s Toto Jr. son Milano ISF (out of Dilona sport/dr by Lord Leatherdale) from breeder Iron Spring Farm. Tis foal moved with a lot of power, balance and impulsion. Te champion jumper foal was Mulsanne (Fandango HX out of Palottie VDL elite sport/sp by Indoctro) bred by Matty O’Rourke. At the Pennock Point Sporthorses keur- ing, he showed his great potential. “Mulsanne has a balanced build with a good topline and a lot of expression. He has athletic movement, is light-footed and stands out with his powerful and balanced canter.” John van den Bosch was the breeder and owner of the reserve champion jumping foal, the Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve daughter Mariposa BF (out of Sophia keur sport/sp by Goodtimes). At the Carousel Ridge Farm keuring, she impressed the jury with her strong confor- mation and canter.


The North America Champion was this 4-year-old mare, Itolimbria DG (Totilas x Valeska DG elite by Krack C) bred by DG Bar Breeders, earning her keur predicate. She was ridden and handled by Willy Arts.


Fine Harness Champions Evaluation of fine harness horses was held in two locations in 2017. Viggon van Beest and Lammert Tel flew over from Hol- land to review the horses and foals at the first keuring in Nar- von, Pennsylvania, and for the second keuring held in Goshen, Indiana, Viggon van Beest returned with Johan Hamminga to judge a record turnout at the Elkhart County Fairgrounds. Stallions and Geldings Besides mares and foals, the jury also inspected geldings and stallions, and with great success because clear quality was demonstrated. Te title for best male horse in the dressage direction went to Rebecca Cowden’s Jerry Garcia S.E. ster IBOP/dr (Charmeur x Volimbria by Contango, breeder Siegi Belz-Fry). At the Lafayette inspection he earned 78.5 points in the IBOP thanks to his active walk, powerful use of the hind leg and uphill canter. Te best male jumper was Jenu- ine Legacy MF ster (Emilion x Canasta by Burggraaf, bred by Greg Michalson) owned by Joanna Hagen. Tis winner of the Global Equine Sires Cup for three-year-olds left no doubt as to his talent. With a 9 for scope, this top athlete earned no less than 85.5 points in the GES Cup and was the unmistakable best.

(Graaf Kelly x Cealarda W by Ganges, owner/breeder Daniel J. Miller, Miller’s Fine Harness Horses), described by the judges as “a harness type colt that might not immediately be noticed in regards to conformation. However, in movement he showed formidably in a presentation that knew no stops.” For two-year-olds, the North American Champion title went to Katruus (Colonist x A Truus by Manno pref, owner/ breeder Dutch Central Stables), a youthful, well-developed harness type and long-legged mare that showed a good trot in which her self-carriage was very notable. North American Champion of both the studbook and ster class for stallions and the IBOP driving test was Jaleet Ster IBOP-tp (Atleet x Dorenda ster by Plain’s Liberator, owner Dutch Central Stables and breeder W.G. Cazemier). Te out-and-out topper had to be North American Champion Mare Jo Roxanne R.M.A. Keur/IBOP-tp (Colo- nist x Fabulous A.G. Starlight by Wouter, owned by Lester A. Graber and bred by David S. Zehr), a mare with good size and a good type showing power and strength even while standing. In movement she completely proved this to be true and she showed excellent balance, hind leg use and self-car- riage. Jo Roxanne R.M.A. also earned reserve championship honors in the IBOP test, where the judges noted she “radi- ated a lot of power and strength immediately upon entering and who was convincing in every aspect of the IBOP. She has a very natural way of going and moves well from behind, because of which she carries herself very well.” Jo Roxanne R.M.A. completed her IBOP at both keuring sites with great scores and therefore also earned her keur.
