results of their breeding programs, many of which have devel- oped exceptional equine athletes for generations. In addition to approvals of individual horses, a multitude of awards and cash prizes were available to reward excellence in breeding stock and to highlight the development of Dutch sport horses for careers in sport in each of the KWPN’s five breeding di- rections, including dressage, jumpers, hunters, harness and gelders. And if entry numbers and enthusiasm were any indi- cation, the 2017 tour was one of the best ever. Te KWPN-NA headquarters in Lexington, Kentucky

reported that more than 400 keuring entries were received, with an estimated average increase of five to ten more entries per site than last year. A respected jury of international Royal Dutch Sport Horse experts including Bart Henstra, Harrie Derks and Arie Hamoen of the Netherlands officiated for the whirlwind tour of sixteen different sites from Connecticut to California and across Canada throughout the month of September. Overall, dressage-type horses led the way as far as participation numbers, with the perennially popular keuring sites of Iron Spring Farm in Coatesville, Pennsylvania and DG Bar Ranch in Hanford, California having more than 50 entries each for riding horses. But interestingly, the individual keuring with the highest total number of entries received (54) was for harness horses held September 1-2 in Goshen, Indiana. Below is the official KWPN report (text by Jenneke Smit, translated from the original Dutch version). “IBOP” is the KWPN’s standard performance test for young horses under harness or under saddle in the different disciplines. Also note that quotations are from the attending judges.
Dressage Title Te four-year-old dressage mare Itolimbria DG (Totilas x Valeska DG elite by Krack C from DG Bar Breeders) received the highest scores, earned her keur predicate and became the North American Champion. Bart Henstra reported, “We saw this mare during the two-day inspection at DG Bar Ranch. Tis long-lined, well-developed mare made a big impression during the dressage IBOP. She has a very good walk, a good and carried trot and she has a lot of talent for collected work. Her canter is powerful and uphill. With 83.5 points, she had the highest score of the day.” Another mare from the same breeder was Jalina DG (Idocus x Satina ster pref by Con-

At Prima Equestrian, the last stop of the 2017 keuring tour, this mare jumped her way to 82.5 points. “Tis mare is very careful and jumps with a good take-off and good reflexes. Besides that, Harlow has great athleticism, good body use and is willing to work.” Te reserve title for jumping mares went to Jewel BF keur (Quasimodo Z x Pearl by Ferro; bred by John van den Bosch). At Carousel Ridge Farm in Canada, the big-framed mare made a good impression with her jumping talent, both during free jumping and under saddle.
IBOP Toppers Te highest dressage IBOP scores were earned by Izabella (Sezuan x Rastede elite sport/dr IBOP/dr by Riccione) who was bred by Carla Kramer and is owned by Heather Oleson. In Holland, her half-brother Just Wimphof (by De Niro) is approved for breeding by the KWPN and this past breed- ing season he was one of the most popular young stallions. Like her half-brother, Izabella also showed a lot of dressage talent and passed her IBOP with 84.5 points. She scored a 9 for rideability/workability and an 8.5 for trot, self-carriage/ balance, suppleness and talent for dressage. “Tis uphill, long-lined mare has a fantastic canter, very good rideability
