Grateful for This Day As we close another year full of the challenges associated with being human companioned by the grace of being spiritual, a favorite quote by Eleanor Roosevelt comes to mind: “Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift.” Even with all that life throws at us, it truly is a gift to be able to experience the lessons we came here to learn, including and especially the power of gratitude. When we seek gratitude, it finds us. I bring this up because I’ve been focused on understanding what being

grateful calls for in my own life. Usually, it’s about the basic blessings we too often take for granted. What matters the most must start with appreciating our next breath, food, shelter, family and friends, plants and animals and just being alive. The more we appreciate the simple joys, the simpler life seems to be. Lately I have been regarding things that aren’t easy to appreciate with

humor, which leads me to appreciate things as they are... perfect in their im- perfection. I am also learning that there are no mistakes, only lessons. So this month’s shared insight is to make glorious mistakes! For many, certain holidays aren’t easy, especially if we are missing loved ones or longing to be around family or have a family of our own. I’ve found that the best antidote is finding a way to be of service; it might be cooking for the homeless, volunteering for a local charity, hosting a holiday event or just helping out a neighbor. We don’t need a reason for a season of kindness.

Bountiful blessings to you and all,

Shelly Searle, Publisher
