Taylor, N. (2016). Teaching healthy musicianship: Te music educator’s guide to injury prevention and wellness. New York, NY: Oxford University Press. https://global.oup. com/academic/product/teaching-healthy-musician- ship-9780190253677?cc=us&lang=en&

In this book, Taylor provides a model for injury prevention. Te model is illustrated with 125 photographs and supported by practical explanations of body mechanics, ergonomics, and the performance-related health problems and risk factors unique to musicianship. Te book aims to help music educa- tors avoid injuries that they may encounter themselves and to equip them with tools to foster healthy practices in their music students. A practical book for the music teacher’s library.

Vining, D. (2014). Cross training for musicians. Mountain Peak Music. iBook available. http://www.mountainpeakmusic. com/cross-training-1/

In this multi-media, web-based resource, Vining provides a practice guide for musicians, which incorporates Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, Body Mapping, yoga, and stretch- ing. A series of videos and sound files guides the participant through a sequence of movements designed to promote healthy practicing. Te author points out that breaking up

practice sessions with short movement sequences is analogous to the runner, who cross trains by swimming. Vining organizes the movement breaks by day of the week, modality (Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, etc.), and body region. An innovative approach to practice and to promoting wellness for musicians.
