Solent Business Awards

2017

The 2017 Solent Business Awards honours its

‘Magnificent Seven’

Many people view seven as a lucky number. However it wasn’t luck, but top business performances that saw seven talented winners honoured at this year’s Solent Business Awards

They ranged from bespoke joinery manufacturers to autonomous robotic systems specialists, from online job- board providers to card payment analysts, software services to charity aware – representing various business sectors, but each winning member of this ‘Magnificent Seven’ was aligned in boldly demonstrating ability, positivity and growth.

As awards host David Murray, founder and publisher of The Business Magazine, said in welcoming 270 gala-dinner guests to Hilton at the Ageas Bowl: “Growth and positivity. That’s what we are seeing out there – and of course what we are witnessing here tonight in this room.”

From Poole and Weymouth in the west to Chichester in the east, and throughout the whole of Hampshire, Murray felt that during the year few people in the region would have failed to notice “an air of optimism and an environment of inward investment and re-investment that frankly belies the negativity that surrounds the Brexit talks and national politics.”

While the finalists ably represented “the cream of high- achieving businesses from across this very vibrant region”, Murray also highlighted progressive cities.

“Portsmouth: Our city of the year, with an ambitious vision and urban regeneration at its heart. The council and university are working in tandem to create a sustainable city.

“Southampton is also attracting some exciting developments from Itchen Riverside to Mountpark.

“And Bournemouth is earning a global reputation as a centre of digital activity, a digital hub.

“The Business Magazine, and our fellow award sponsors NatWest, KPMG, Pitmans Law, James Cowper Kreston, and Taylor Made Computer Solutions, are delighted to be hosting this great night once again and joining with you in championing this buoyant region of ours.”

Murray also thanked the CBI for its support and the judging panel for its rigorous and conscientious assessments.

Then he introduced an author, journalist, theatre producer, former MP and government whip, frequent radio guest, and most recently television broadcaster – “There’s very little he hasn’t turned his hand to, and achieved with great aplomb” – Gyles Brandreth, the evening’s special guest presenter.

As is traditional, one ‘winner’ on the night was well publicised in advance – the Solent Business Awards chosen charity, Naomi House & Jacksplace. Publicity of the charity, which supports children and young adults with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, engendered generosity from the guests who donated ‘special awards’ totaling £2,217.81.
