In the spirit of football season, at least here in the United States, in this issue of Wire Rope Exchange we take on some of the blocking and tackling of running your business and getting your work done. Of course, our international readers play a very different game when they say “football”, but the challenges we’ll address here will look a lot alike no matter where you are. Every business thinks about price when buying or selling.
Managing costs can have a notable impact on your bottom line, and you may be making a substantial investment in a
variety of rigging gear. So what factors drive the price you pay for the rigging gear you buy? Several folks at Mazzella Companies put together their thoughts on how prices work in the marketplace for lifting gear and we share that with you in this issue. Price may be the first thing you see, but the value of your investment is ultimately
what will really matter to your business, and price is just one component of value. Timing, method, and cost of delivery can be critical in some cases, and for some products if you need support after the purchase that could be the only thing that matters! And in other cases, you know what you need to do, but maybe you don’t know exactly what you need to do it correctly. A supplier with the knowledge to help you buy the right tool for the job can provide a lot of value. Once you have the right gear and equipment, you also have to make sure your team is using it correctly. With that in mind, we asked David Clark from CM Labs to share his perspective on incorporating simulators into your training program. Simulators are now widely accepted, and the potential for hands-on learning without tying up valuable machine hours is compelling. On top of that, technology may help pull in the younger generation our industry needs to cultivate to address the shortage of skilled workers. Once again, you’ll want to have a plan – not just for how you’ll use simulators in your
training program, but for how to measure the effect of what you accomplish as you modify your training program. On that subject, we plan to attend several trade events this fall.
