“RSCI is a first-class company, and they handled


the rock challenges like pros, and Inland Crane is well-versed and knowledgeable in what they’re doing. We manufactured the big saddles that go on top of the towers and then the abutment that the cables fall into—a combination steel-fabricated casting. We made patterns and cast the cable troughs, which have the indentation of the cables cast into them.” According to Tim Klein at WireCo® WorldGroup,


who worked with CBSI, and supplied the strand, “What makes this project unique is that the main cables are being fabricated using ASTM A586 structural strand as the load-bearing members. Te main cable strand is three-inch ASTM A586 structural strand with Class C outer wires—minimum breaking force, 702 tons.” Klein said there are 12 assemblies total, 6 on each main cable. Te lengths of the assemblies are approximately 410 feet. “Te suspender strands are two-


inch ASTM A586 structural strand with Class C outer wires—minimum breaking force, 238 tons. Tere are twenty assemblies total—ten per side.”


Klein noted that the packaging and delivery was coordinated closely with CBSI due to the handling issues at the remote staging location, and the installation requirements of the contractor.


Ultimately, approximately 5,000 feet of main cable will be used, with a max load capacity of 1.6 million pounds. “I’d say the biggest adjustment we made was the construction sequence on that south abutment,” said Edlund, “… to try and decrease the overall duration of the project—and so far, it seems to have paid off. We were able to get half of the cables well ahead of completing the entire concrete structure.”


He also noted that the project is right on schedule. “We will have the bridge super structure with the deck and everything completed by winter of this year.”y
