September 2017 Obituary Geneva Amelia McKinney On November 3, 1936,


Geneva Amelia McKinney was born to the late John Henry and


Amelia M. Dickens in


Norfolk, VA. She was their first born child. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, class of 1957, and attended Norfolk Campus of


Virginia State College,


now Norfolk State University obtaining an associates degree in Business.


This young lady met and


married the late Fred McKinney in 1960. The lord blessed their union with two sons that she loved, cherished, supported and protected.


Her two children will


carry with them a lot of great memories of their mom. Some of those memories


include


taking them to Black History/Cultural events, staying up late into the evening tutoring them in Math and English, taking them to their baseball, football, soccer, and track events, as well as taking them and some of her nephews and nieces on vacation trips to Ocean City, MD, Washington, D.C., Orlando, FL and California.


Geneva loved her community.


Even though she was a very private person she served as president of the Gracetown Civic League. She was an active and vocal member of Morning Star Baptist Church.


Geneva was employed by the U.S.


Government at the Chief Petty Officer's Club at the Little Creek Amphibious Base.


She started as a salad prep


person and progressed to Food and Beverage procurement officer. She was also employed at Lillian Vernon.


loved to garden.


In her retirement, Geneva She would spend
